Oakentoon #87: The eagles are coming!

Ahem.

So this… now, this… has a very complicated socio-political background.

The thing is, over the last few years people in my country are being pushed up the walls by numerous idiots consequently trying to split our society into “real Poles” and the enemies of the state, into “real Catholics” and the demon-worshippers, into patriots and traitors, saints and parasites...

The counter-balance for all of this crap is the most positive thing my country has to offer – The Grand Orchestra of Christmas Charity (Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy) - en.wosp.org.pl/,  one of the biggest, non-governmental, non-profit, charity organizations in Poland, established in 1993 by Jurek Owsiak, focusing on raising founds for upgrading medical care in my country.

The Grand Finale, when the money is raised, with numerous concerts and events happening all around the country, takes place on the first or second Sunday of every new year. In all of our daily crap, and malice, and petty divisions, this is the one annual event in which our complaining society unites and with a wide smile on (almost) every face shows some real selfless humanitarianism.

Such Grand Finale has been taking place last Sunday and this year the money is going to upgrade the medical care for pediatric emergency medicine. And Owsiak knows what he's talking about - his foundation is certified by the American Heart Assosiation to provide courses about CPR, using high-tech equipment, teaching everyone - staring from pupils who are a couple years old!

There’s only one day / year when I feel proud to be a Pole and it is not the Independence Day – it’s when Jurek Owsiak’s volunteers travel down the streets and everyone throws in a coin or two to show there’s more in our hearts than just enchanted gold...

I’d like this Oakentoon to be my tribute to Owsiak’s foundation, especially since his positive undertaking, withstanding the trial of time, breaking new fundraising records year after year, has been a sting in the eye for some of our ever-malcontent, ever-envious Polish media. To them I say, quoting his #majesty, imrid amrad ursul!

And to you, dear Oakenlovers, I say: it’s always worth knowing how to save a life! ... without athelas snatched from a pig’s snout…

All CPR stages in this Oakentoon refer to the current standards of basic life support as described in the European Resuscitation Council’s guidelines published in 2010. They just forgot about the eagles.

And NO, not joking about shouting „Fire!” rather than “Help!”. This is what they teach at BLS courses. Why? Because more and more people care more about their wealth than another human being. I see fire indeed.
